Cake FAQs

When should I order for an event?

For Cakes, Cupcakes and Treats -2 to 3 weeks prior to date needed. Weddings and Catering – 6 weeks prior to date needed. * There are some occasions where we can squeeze in an extra order or 2 however it is best to order in advance to ensure availability.

Does June Poppies have cakes “ready to go”?

We do not. All items are made fresh to order. No waste, freshest taste.

How can I place an order?

Can I order online?

Sort of – You must request an estimate, approve the estimate and submit your deposit. Check out our Signature Cake Mixes and more HERE - Shipping to 50 US States.

All orders require a deposit to ensure your order is placed.

Is a deposit required when placing an order?

We require at least half of the total as the deposit.

What forms of payment do you accept?

We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover, American Express & Cash. Personal checks are accepted if received 3 weeks prior to due date. Returned checks will incur a fee and order will not be processed until paid.

How far in advance should I order a custom cake?

The earlier the better, we suggest 2-3 weeks.

Can I make changes to my cake after I order?

You can make changes up to a week before your pick up date. Changes can be made by calling or emailing us. Please make sure you receive a response to ensure your message was received.

Refund/Exchange Policy

We take pride in our desserts and cakes. If you are unhappy with your order and/or purchase, immediately notify us (within 24 hours of pick-up) of your concern and return your dessert to us. We retain the right to judge our product quality for ourselves & determine the amount that can be refunded. All refunds will be provided via method of payment.

Order Cancellation Policy

June Poppies understands that plans change and we will gladly assist you in making changes to your order date and time whenever possible. We accept weekday cancellations by phone (970-481-4553) or email (orders@junepoppies.com), 1 week before your event, you will receive 50% of your order back via method of original payment. All changes must be handled directly with a representative of June Poppies, LLC and confirmed. June Poppies, LLC reserves the right to charge a cancellation fee if insufficient time is given, as stated above, due to costs incurred in the purchase, priority and preparation of the order. Charges for cancellations after the above time will be as follows: 75% of the entire order will be charged for cancellations 72 hours prior to the event and 100% of the entire order will be charged for canceling the order after that time. It is entirely up to June Poppies, LLC discretion, to change or otherwise offer any other options to the customer.

In the event of Missed or Forgotten Pickups

We make every attempt to contact you before we close. Your order will be available for pickup until the following business day, deposits will not be refunded.

Wedding Cake Cancellation Policy

Wedding deposits are non-refundable & non-transferable (Deposit is deducted from the wedding cake balance only). Any Wedding cake orders cancelled 30 days prior to your wedding date will receive only a 50% refund on any payments made. Any Wedding cake orders cancelled less than 30 days prior to your wedding date will receive NO refunds on any payments made after the deposit.

Do you make cakes for people with allergies?

We make egg free, nut free, dairy free, & gluten free cakes. These orders need to be placed at least 4-5 days in advance. We do have some vegan cake flavors. We can only accommodate one allergy per cake with the only exception being nut free.

Do you offer tastings?

We offer tastings for customers ordering wedding cakes only. You must email/call and set up an appointment for a tasting. You will be able to sample up to 6 flavors. *Please note there is a fee for tastings.

What should I bring to my appointment?

You may bring any pictures of cakes or designs that have caught your eye. We enjoy dreaming and designing with our clients and are happy to help with ideas! You should have the date, number of guests you wish to serve, time for delivery, and location of venue. Please keep in mind a deposit is required during the appointment in order to secure your date and delivery time.

How many people can I bring to my appointment?

We can accommodate what you need, however, the fee covers 2 people.

How is a tier cake priced?

All tier cakes are priced based on type of cake, filling, icing, decorations, structure, and toppers. Tier cakes start at $4.50 per serving and can go all the way up to $15 per serving.

Can I get a different cake flavor for each tier of my cake?

Yes!! It’s highly recommended!

Do you make Styrofoam tiers to make tier cakes larger?

Yes, however the cost is very similar to a real cake as it needs to be bought and decorated.

If I bring you a photo of a cake can you make it?

We can not recreate cakes exactly as any photo. All cakes are works of art and each decorator is an artist, we all have our own different styles, tools, and methods of creating custom cakes. We will use any provided photos as inspiration.

What size cake do I need?

Are all of your cakes filled?

Yes all of our cakes are filled.

Do you put edible photos on cakes?

No.

Do you do fondant covered cakes?

Yes we can cover cakes in fondant & do fondant decorations.

What color fondant can I cover the cake with?

You can do any color. If you have a specific color we suggest you bring in a swatch for us to work with. There will be an additional fee.

If I order an allergen cake can I cover it with fondant?

You can put fondant on top of gluten free, dairy-free, egg free & nut-free cakes.

How far in advance should I order a cake with fondant decorations?

Any orders with 3D fondant decoration must be placed at least 2 week in advance. Please allow at least 2-3 weeks.

Why do you need so much notice for fondant items?

Fondant figurines can not be done in one day. Over a course of a week or even more the figure has to dry so more can be added to it. We can not put an unsteady fondant figurine on a cake. All completed figurines need to dry for at least 2 days when completely finished.

Do you deliver?

Yes we do deliver. Delivery prices are based on mileage/tolls. We require delivery for all tier cakes.

When do I need to pay my balance?

If we are delivering your order must be paid in full 2 days before your delivery. If you are picking up your order you can pay when you arrive.

Should I keep my cake refrigerated?

Yes, all cakes should be refrigerated. You will receive special instructions for fondant covered cakes and figurines.

How long can my cake stay out for?

Our cakes are meant to be displayed therefore they can stay at room temperature 60-70 degrees for up to 3 hours otherwise they MUST be refrigerated.

How do I pick up my cake order?

You will receive pick up instructions with your confirmation. Your car must be kept as cool as possible during warmer weather AC must be on high and in winter the heat should be shut off. We suggest having a flat area to place your cake where there will be no wind or hot air blowing on it & a rubber mat under it to prevent sliding if you are traveling a great distance.

Where can I view photos of cakes you have done?

Photos can be viewed throughout the pages of our website and blog Instagram and Facebook.  We suggest our gallery, this is our most updated for cakes.

Do you do wedding/party favors?

Yes! We have plenty of options/ideas for your event. Mainly, our customers like to do sugar cookies or cake bites. We can match them to any theme or colors you have along with your party. You may provide packaging or we can source and provide packaging for you, will incur extra fees.

Vanilla FAQs

Why is Vanilla extract so expensive?

Well for starters, the vanilla process is extremely labor intensive, time consuming and highly dependent on timing and climate patterns. June Poppies is committed to supporting smallholder farmers and ensuring they are paid fairly for their hard and important work.

What is “Fairly Traded”?

Fair trade means that fair prices are paid directly to the producers. Our farmers benefit from purchase commitments to give the farmers greater financial security. Shared knowledge from across our global farmer network. Support in expanding on-site value added activities such as sorting, curing and packaging to increase farmer revenue.

What region does June Poppies vanilla come from?

Our vanilla beans are sourced in Indonesia.

Shipping

Orders are generally shipped within 2-3 business days from Fort Collins, CO. Depending on what shipping option you choose, you can expect your order 4-7 days after placing your order. *COVID-19 has caused shipping delays throughout the country, please expect delays that are out of our control.

Is vanilla only used in baking ?

Absolutely not, there are many opportunities to utilize vanillas complex flavor to enhance your experiences. Vanilla extract can be used in Barbecue and grilling recipes, savory sauces, craft coffee drinks, smoothies and cocktails just to name a few. June Poppies will be sharing diverse recipes periodically on the blog, sign up for our newsletter and follow us on social media to ensure you get the recipes first! We also have cake mixes for sale.

Do you sell any other vanilla products?

Yes, we do! Whether you are looking for Grade A (Sulawesi), Tahitian or Mexican vanilla beans, we can supply you with what you need. Vanilla beans are special order only, please contact us and we’ll be happy to assist you.
